Nadine Greiner, 89

Jan. 28, 1924 - Jan. 31, 2013

AMES –– Nadine Pearl Greiner, the daughter of Charles W. and Pearl E. (Daws) Obrecht, was born on January 28, 1924, in Harlan. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1942.

On October 6, 1946, Nadine married Robert Michael Greiner, Sr. in Eureka Springs, AR; the couple made their home in Harlan. In 1952, they moved to Council Bluffs, and in 1963, following several other moves, the family returned to Harlan. Later, the family resided in Ames, and in 1988, moved to Omaha, NE. Following her husband’s death on August 15, 1998, Nadine moved with other family members to Ames, where she lived with her son, Rod. In 2010, she became a resident of the Bethany Manor in Story City. Nadine was a busy homemaker who had a big heart for others. She enjoyed making crafts, writing letters and cards to keep in touch with friends, and spending time flower gardening. Nadine loved to watch her children and grandchildren play various sports. Nadine P. Greiner died on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, at the age of 89 years and 3 days.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Greiner, Sr.; two sons, Ronald Dean Greiner (in infancy) and Randall Greiner; one daughter, Patricia Arden Furnari; one great-grandson, Anthony Hall; one great-great-grandson, Daniel Collins; one sister, Esther Christensen; and two brothers, Lloyd Obrecht and Donald Obrecht. She is survived by five children, Richard Martin of Kingsport, TN, Carol Tomney of Half Way, MO, Robert (Holly) Greiner, Jr. of Ames, Ronald (Pamela) Greiner of Holiday, FL, and Rodney (Celia) Greiner of Ames; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Monday, February 4, 2013, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, with Rev. Orris Drake officiating. Sara Early and Blake Greiner served as musicians. Casket bearers were Blake Greiner, Jon Greiner, Rodney Greiner, Richard Martin, Nicholas Greiner, and Robert Greiner, Jr. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Life Community, Story City.
