Visitation:
Recitation of the Rosary Friday, 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel.

Service:
Funeral Mass Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Council Bluffs. Rev. Wilwerding, officiant.

Cemetery:
Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Church.

Obituary:
Cyril L. “Cy” Gubbels, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away January 28, 2013, at the Rehab Center of Omaha.

Cy was born May 27, 1928, in Westphalia, Iowa, to the late Peter H. and Clara R. (Bock) Gubbels. He graduated St. Boniface High School, Westphalia in 1946. He farmed until his enlistment in the U.S. Army on January 18, 1951. Cy married Therese Irene Zimmerman on May 22, 1951. They were blessed with five children. Cy served in the Army until 1953, moving to Council Bluffs, where Cy worked as a route supervisor for Alamito Dairy for 20 years; Griffin Pipe Co. for 4 1/2 years; Max I. Walker for 12 years and worked maintenance for 5 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, Cy was preceded in death by his sister, Sabina Conrad; brothers, Peter, Ambrose, Alvin and Fr. Richard Gubbels.

Cy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Therese I. Gubbels of Council Bluffs; daughters, Diane Hill of Omaha, Margaret (Randy) Carson of Cave Creek, Arizona, Ella Mae Gubbels of Council Bluffs; sons, Daniel (Chris) Gubbels of Beulah, North Dakota, Jeffrey (Janice) Gubbels of Council Bluffs; 8 grandchildren, Sarah Billings, Brenna Secore, Eric, Chad and Heather Gubbels, James, Robert, and Erica Hill; sisters, Sylvia Goeser of Westphalia, Iowa, Virginia Lickteig of Denison, Iowa, Helen Wubbenhorst of Herman, Nebraska, Mary Ann (Francis) Koesters of Earling, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

The family will direct memorials.

Visitation:
Recitation of the Rosary Friday, 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel.

Service:
Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Fr. Glen Wilwerding and Fr. Wayne Gubbels, nephew, will be the celebrants.

Cemetery:
Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with full military rites. A lunch will follow in the parish hall.
