THOMAS ARTHUR ADAMS (1959 - 2012)

Thomas Arthur Adams was born March 12, 1959, the son Arthur and Joan Harrington Adams. He passed away at his home near Vail, Iowa, on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the age of 53.

Tom was born in Carroll, Iowa. He attended St. Ann's Catholic School in Vail and high school at Kuemper Catholic School in Carroll, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1977. After high school, Tom farmed the family farm near Vail and raised his family. He was united in marriage to Leslie Crane on June 22, 1985, and to this union was born five children. On February 14, 2010, Tom was united in marriage to Kim Bauer Waterbury.

Tom was a loving and caring son, husband, father, and grandfather. Attending his sons' football games and his children's motocross races were important to Tom. His children were his pride and joy and he took great pleasure in teaching them to drive. Snowmobiling and skiing in Colorado were memorable vacations with his family. He was able to work on the farm, raising crops and livestock, a job he loved as time spent outdoors was suitable to him along with camping, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles, and always a good game of cards. Tom was a member of the Hillblazers motorcycle club. He also liked to watch football on TV and go to Nascar races with friends. He was always ready to lend anyone a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially with his nieces and nephews. Tom was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Arthur in 1996; his first wife, Leslie Adams in 2008; a daughter in infancy, Paige in 1986; and one brother-in-law, Jim Tomka in 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Kim of Vail; three sons, Eric and his wife, Heather of Arcadia; Ben and his wife, Krista; and Arthur; all of Vail; one daughter, Sarah Adams of Charter Oak, Iowa, and her special friend, Douglas Weinbrandt; one granddaughter, Paige Adams; his mother, Joan Adams of Vail; two stepchildren, Ryne and Brooke Waterbury at home; four sisters: Mary Faye Golder and her husband, Bruce of Johnston, Iowa; Teresa Tomka of Des Moines; Susanne Soppe and her husband, Don of McFarland, Wisconsin; Maggie Simons and her husband, Paul of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Bill Adams of Carroll, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. Fr. Robert Gralapp served as Celebrant of the Mass with interment in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Vail.

Organist Irene Feilmeier provided accompaniment for the St. Ann's Family Choir. John Walsh served as Lector, Mark & Betty Schwery were Eucharistic Ministers, and Servers were Haley Hoffman and Mitchell Fitzsimmons.

Monday Prayer Services included a 4 P.M. Legion of Mary Rosary and a 6 P.M. Scriptural Prayer Service led by Deacon Thomas Murphy at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Serving as Pallbearers were Patrick Tomka, Andy Tomka, Joe Tomka, Zach Ludwig, Matt Ludwig, and Seth Ludwig. The family invited everyone to the Vail Community Building for fellowship and lunch provided by Staleys. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
