Andrew William Dales was born July 15, 1825 at Belfast, Antrim, Northern Ireland to William Andrew Dales and Margaret Newell, the second of six children. His siblings were: Sarah Dales (born May 29, 1820 Ireland, died January 27, 1903 Guernsey, Ohio); John (born 1830 Ireland); Jane (born abt 1835 Ireland); Margaret and Nancy (both born at Ireland).

Andrew married Mary Gawley on June 23, 1852 at Anahilt, Lisburn, Ireland. (Mary Gawley was born June 23, 1852 at Ireland to William Gawley and Mary Beaty.) The couple emigrated to Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio between 1852-1860.

Believe they had 10 children all born at Cambridge, Guernsey, Ohio: William G (born July 21, 1854, died February 12, 1926 Shelby, Iowa); David G (born October 20, 1856, died June 7, 1939 Shelby, Iowa); John Howard (born March 4, 1858, died September 21, 1947 Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa); Sarah Jane (born October 19, 1863, died July 26, 1934 Iowa); Eleanor (born abt 1866, died abt 1888 at Guernsey, Ohio); Mary Ellen (born abt 1866); Margaret Ann (born July 14, 1868, died 1955 Manning, Caroll, Iowa); Martha Isabella (born March 1870, died August 2, 1955 Manning, Carroll, Iowa) and Agnes Maud (born July 15, 1875, died March 29, 1936 Colfax, Jasper, Iowa).

Andrew William Dales died March 24, 1907 at Irwin, Shelby, Iowa and was buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin, IA.

1880: Andrew Dales 55, Mary Dales 49, John Dales 21, Andrew Dales 18, Sarah J. Dales 16, Mary E. Dales 14, Margaret A. Dales 11, Isabell Dales 9, Aginess Dales 5.

Found in the 1885 to 1905 censuses living at Jefferson, Shelby, Iowa:
1885: Andrew Dales 61, Mary Dales 53, David Dales 28, John Dales 25, Sary Dales 19, Mary E Dales 18, Margarett Dales 16, Isabell Dales 13, Agness Dales 9, Samuel A Dales 3 (not sure who Samuel is, may possibly be Andrew and Mary's eleventh child?).
1895: Andrew Dales age 69.
1900: Charley Moore 31, Martha I Moore 30, Wilford Moore 5, Andrew Dales 74, widowed, father in law.
