James A. Erickson, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away July 19, 2012, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Jim was born January 4, 1928, in Harlan, Iowa, to the late Allen and Annie (Ohms) Ericksen. He graduated Harlan Community High School in 1946 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim married Shirley Peeks on January 25, 1953, in Marysville, Kan. They were blessed with two children. Jim worked at Bemis, Inc., as an offset printer for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Petersen.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Erickson; son, Michael J. Erickson, both of Council Bluffs; daughter, Linda K. Doebelin, of Treynor; grandsons, James D. Doebelin, of Omaha, Neb., Steven J. Doebelin; sister, Pola Peters, both of Council Bluffs; brothers, Eldon Ericksen, of Lewis, Iowa, Paul 'Nick" (Pat) Ericksen of Cincinnati, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Saint John Lutheran Church with Rev. E. Jon Benson, pastor, officiating. Interment in Council Bluffs with full military rites. A luncheon will follow at Saint John Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to Saint John Lutheran Church, 633 Willow Ave.
