Dec. 5, 1930 - Jun. 14, 2012Luella Reynolds, age 81, the daughter of Uriah Scott and Lucile (Davenport) Holloway, was born just north of Pawnee in Harrison County, Missouri on December 5, 1930. She died on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, Iowa.
In 1934 Luella's family relocated to rural Harlan, Iowa to raise beef cattle, farm and operate Holloway Seed Company. Luella graduated from Kirkman School in Kirkman, Iowa.
On September 12, 1949 she eloped to Worthington, Minnesota to marry Wayne Reynolds. They lived just outside of Irwin, Iowa when their first daughter, Kathryn Lucille, was born in 1951. They also lived in rural Avoca, Iowa, Hatfield, Missouri, Kellerton, Iowa, and Eagleville, Missouri, where they farmed and operated a small dairy herd. During this time, three more daughters were born, Dixie Ann in 1954, Beverly Jean in 1956, and Peggy Sue in 1958.
In the early 1960's the family moved to Lamoni, Iowa. While they continued to farm, the dairy herd was exchanged for a registered Angus herd. In 1970 Wayne and Luella designed and built her dream house overlooking Lake LaShane outside of Lamoni.
Luella actively helped with the farming and dairy operations for several years, but she was first and foremost a homemaker. Luella was also a telephone operator, a waitress at the State Line Station, a summer Bible School teacher at Otterbein Church at Eagleville, an Avon and a Park Lane Jewelry salesperson, a Bloomington Rustlers Girls 4-H Club leader, and a member of Lambda Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She also worked at Lamoni Livestock for several years, as well as Lamoni Floral, Jerry's Floral, Graceland College Food Service, and Sodexho Food Service at Graceland University.
Luella enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, having coffee with friends, cooking, baking, canning, and freezing. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards, doing crafts, and puzzles.
After Wayne, her husband of 53 years, passed away in 2002, Luella remained on the farm until 2010. She moved to Crown Colony, then Lamoni Nursing and Rehab, and then to the Alzheimer's wing at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola.
Preceding Luella in death were her parents; husband; six brothers: Donald, James, Robert, Fred, Tom, and Buck Holloway; and sister Doris Grabill. Survivors include her daughters: Kathy & Don Templeton of Lamoni, Dixie & Vince Graham of Eagleville, Bev & Leroy Kennedy of Lamoni, and Peggy & Grant Marlowe of Merritt Island, Florida; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Junior & Dorothy Holloway of Harlan and Gary & Cheri Holloway of Kirkman; sisters: Alberta Dreier of Aspinwall, Iowa, Nora & Vernon Campbell of Irwin, and Janice Holloway of Surprise, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Holloway of Phoenix, Arizona, Helen Holloway of Manilla, Iowa, Marcia Holloway of Harlan, Donna Holloway of Harlan, and Gene (Reynolds) Neubauer of Elk Horn, Iowa; brother-in-law Charles & Judy Reynolds of Omaha, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends.
