FRANCES JEAN “JEANIE” CARLSON, 59, of Atlantic died Tuesday, May 29 at her home in Atlantic. Memorial services for ”JEANIE” CARLSON will be held 2-p.m. Tuesday, June 5th, at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Husband: William Carlson of Atlantic;
Son: Shane (Amy) Kelly of Norfolk, VA;

(February 13, 1953 - May 29, 2012)

Frances Jean McClure was born February 13, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Eugene and Clara Louise (Rolston) McClure and passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at her home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Jeanie was a lifelong resident of Iowa, moving to Atlantic in 1968. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1971. She was married to Robert Kelly. One son was born to this union, Robert Shane Kelly. On June 6, 1999, Jeanie was married to William D. Carlson at Camblin’s Addition in Sunnyside Park in Atlantic. She worked at Gambles, the Alcohol & Drug Assistance Agency, Dollar General and SITEL and various other jobs. Jeanie was a member of the Cass County Pool League and Nishna Hills Golf Club.

In her younger years, Jeanie enjoyed roller skating and horseback riding. Currently, her hobbies included playing pool, golfing, fishing, hunting and gardening. She also enjoyed reading Stephen King books, sitting around the fire, going to the beach, dancing, spending time with her cats and watching the “Squinters” (squirrels). Family was very important to Jeanie. She was especially proud of her son, Shane, and his commitment to the U. S Navy.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Clara McClure and her grandparents, Elmer Lee and Silvia Ethel McClure and Edwin W. and Ida Frances (Robinson) Griste.

She is survived by her husband, William D. Carlson of Atlantic, Iowa; her son, Robert Shane (Amy) Kelly of Norfolk, VA; her sister, Susie (Stan) Kinzie of Anita, Iowa; and her brother, Steve (Phyllis) McClure of Anita, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. No formal visitation with the family is scheduled.

Lunch will be held in the Hockenberry Community Room following the service.
