Louie Stolz, 87, of Dunlap died at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center on Sunday, January 20th. An obituary and service times will be posted as soon as they are available.

Mass of Christian Burial for 87 year old Louis "Louie" Stolz of Dunlap will be at 10:30am on Thursday, February 3 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Mr. Stolz passed away on Sunday, January 30 at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center. He is survived by his brother Merrill Stolz of Harlan; 2 Sisters: Lois Koesters of Darling and Wilma Mohr of Denison; 2 Sisters-in-law: Alice Stolz of Harlan; and Edith Stolz of San Diego, CA. Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap is in charge of arrangements where visitation will begin at 3pm on Wednesday, February 2 with a scripture service at 6pm.

MEMORIALS TO DUNLAP FIRE & RESCUE or THE CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE

Louis “Louie” Raymond Stolz was born April 28, 1923, to George and Vera (Dougal) Stolz. He attended St. Peter Camp; Paul Catholic School in Defiance, Iowa. After the ninth grade he stayed home and helped his parents on the farm. On June 3, 1947, Louie married Helen Assmann at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple farmed near Earling. In 1962, they purchased the DX Station in Dunlap and moved into Dunlap. In 1978 they sold the station and Louie managed the State of Iowa Liquor Store in Dunlap for eight years. Louie then helped out at the Doc’s Carwash. Helen died on March 18, 2007. Louie sold his home and moved into the Dunlap Assisted Living in December of 2009.

Louie was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, was a Eucharist minister and funeral usher for many years. He served as President of the Dunlap Housing Board, and enjoyed gardening, yard work, gathering and picking out walnuts, golfing, bowling and traveling. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June of 1997.

Louie died on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 87 years, nine months, two days.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; five brothers, Mal, Melvin, Alan, George and Roman; and one sister, Delores Tremel. He is survived by his brother, Merrill Stolz of Harlan, Iowa; two sisters, Lois Koesters of Earling, Iowa and Wilma Mohr of Denison, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Alice Stolz of Harlan, Iowa and Edith Stolz of San Diego, California; and many nieces nephews and friends.
