Funeral services for Troy Eugene Chickering, age 26, were held Tuesday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. Pastor Otto A. Zwanziger officiated. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were John Poepsel, Andy Baldwin, and Curtis Baldwin. Active casket bearers were Steve Ozbun, Jim Henschel, Michael Petsche, Keith Kimmen, Brad A. Johnson, and Howard A. Darnell.

Troy Eugene Chickering, son of Eugene and Marlene (Fuelling) Chickering, was born September 1, 1965 at Faribault, Minnesota. Troy attended elementary school at Brownsdale, Minnesota before moving with his famly to Harlan, Iowa. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1984 and then attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. One of the things that is important to say about Troy is that he worked hard. Even during high school and college, he always had a job working at Earl May Garden Center in both Harlan and Ames. In 1986, he began working in road construction for Sta-Built Construction Company in Harlan and in 1988, he became employed at Western Engineering in Harlan. He had just recently moved to Dickens, Iowa to continue his employment there with Western Engineering. Troy liked being outdoors. He liked the mountains and things dealing with nature. One of his favorite places were the Teton Mountains near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He also loved dogs, especially his Chow dog named Sasha.

Troy Eugene Chickering died on November 2, 1991 at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa as the result of a motor vehicle accident on October 10, 1991 near Dickens, Iowa. He had attained the age of 26 years, two months and one day.

He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Marlene Chickering of Harlan, Iowa; 2 brothers, Bret Chickering of Harlan, Iowa and Layne Chickering of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 sisters, Rhonda (Robert) Beachboard of Reno, Nevada, Connie (Rodney) Stevens of Bradyville, Iowa, Wendy Chickering of San Diego, California, and Julie Chickering of Lynwood, Washington; his grandparents, Sidney and Ila Chickering and Carlton and Gretchen Fuelling, all of Monona, Iowa; and his fiance Peggy Bubke and her son Kaleb of Dickens, Iowa.
