He is survived by his wife Ruth Paulsen of Harlan, IA; their daughter Lisa Ann (Gordon) Sosso of Omaha, NE; 3 grandchildren; his sisters: Virginia (Raymond) Hughes of Beverly Hills, FL and Barbara (Harry) Budd of Ames, IA

The Shelby County Sheriff office was called to the scene of a one vehicle accident Tuesday night at approximately 5:20 p.m. Deputies learned passing motorist located a 2002 Ford F-350 in the east ditch, in the 1400th block of county road M36. This investigation revealed the driver, identified as 66 year old Thomas Paulsen of Harlan, lost control of the vehicle as it was southbound. The vehicle then traveled into the east ditch and struck several trees before ejecting the driver. Thomas Paulsen was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Assisting the Shelby County Sheriffs at the scene was the Kirkman Fire Department, the Harlan Fire Department, and Medivac ambulance. The investigation into the accident is ongoing by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
