Obituary

Betty Joan Bull, 94, Rock Island, died Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Eliza Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eliza Creek Cemetery.

Betty Joan was born on February 27, 1928 at a farm house in rural New Boston, IL., the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Sellnau) Zimmerman. She received elementary education in the rural Eliza Creek school and graduated from the former Joy High School.

She married Lytle Bull on July 5, 1946. They resided and farmed near Buffalo Prairie for 22 years where they raised their family. Betty worked as an accounting clerk in Moline for 20 years and then as a bookkeeper for Martin Grain. When she was 65 years old she completed the Basic Nurse Assistant program at Blackhawk and worked as a CNA at Trinity Home Care and Friendship Manor until retiring in her early 80s.

Betty was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church and served as an ordained Elder and Deacon. In earlier years she taught Sunday School and was a youth leader. She served as a delegate from Great Rivers Presbytery to the General Assembly in 1983.

Hobbies included traveling in the USA and many other countries, reading, attending educational events and taking organ lessons from her special friend, Karen Chambers.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy (Roger) Franck and Marilyn (Tom) Bullington; son, Mark (Michelle) Bull; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Lois Folck. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Frances Landers, Aileen Andress, Virginia Bratton; brother, David Zimmerman; and granddaughter, Casey.
