Nicholas J. “Bud” Cimmarusti, 94, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022, in Davenport.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Noon on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed by visiting his obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com. The family will greet friends and family from 11am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nicholas was born May 18, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Frank and Anne (Carsella) Cimmarusti, Sr. At the height of World War II, he dropped out of school and changed his birth certificate at 17 to join the Army and fight for his country. During his service he earned the qualification of Rifle Expert and was decorated with the WWII Victory Metal. Upon discharge and return to Chicago, he met a young Frances Cavalere and they were married September 23, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chicago. They had celebrated 70 years of marriage before Frances passed on October 3, 2020.

Bud earned his a Bachelors of Science in Product Design from IIT and worked on drafting boards as a product design engineer for American Air Filter, Bendix, and finally the Rock Island Arsenal from which he retired in 1990 after twenty years of service. He also taught evening blueprint reading classes in the early 1960’s.

Bud was a people person who loved to talk and share stories from his childhood and throughout his life. Not only was he athletically accomplished in his younger years, playing football, baseball, and running track, but he had a talent for music as well. Bud loved to sing along to Perry Como as well as enjoy his favorite artist on the trumpet, Al Hirt. Above all, he was a family man.

Survivors include his children: Patricia Cimmarusti and David Cimmarusti, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Denielle (Grant) Larie, Adriana Adamski, all of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Cecilia Adamski, Davenport; great-grandson, Holden Larie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins from his large extended Italian family.

In addition to his wife Frances, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Rob” Cimmarusti and brother Frank Jr.
