Phyllis Lathrop, 90, of Annawan, died at Long Term Care, Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Cremation rites will be accorded and graveside comital service will be held at a later date in Annawan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Annawan Community Church or Annawan-Alba Fire and Rescue.

Phyllis Decker was born September 13, 1931 in Kewanee, IL the daughter of Phil and Irene (Moon) Decker. She was raised and educated in Annawan graduating Annawan High School in 1949 and from Western Illinois State Teachers College in 1953. While at Western she played in the Marching and Stage Bands and was president of AET Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. In 1948 she was named queen of Miss Cornbelt Pageant in Henry County. On July 31, 1955 she married Warren “Corky” Lathrop in Annawan, IL. The couple had met at a dance in Manlius in 1954. Warren died on December 2, 2020.

Phyllis had worked at her family business Farm Implement in Annawan. She also helped her husband on the family farm as well as having taught home economics at both Manlius and Annawan over the years.

Phyllis was a member Annawan Community United Methodist Church. She also was active in Home extension. She judged clothing at many Henry and Bureau County Fairs. The Lathrop’s had spent 25 years in the Villages in Florida. The loved to travel especially spending time in Ft Myers Beach. Phyllis enjoyed playing games and researching family genealogy.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Lathrop, Annawan and a daughter, Kim Lathrop, Davenport. Her parents, husband and an infant brother, Eugene Decker preceded her in death.
