Phyllis Ann Matykiewicz, 84, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at her home, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be 11am, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline with visitation one hour prior to services. Her live-streamed service can be viewed on Rafferty Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Masks are required at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice.
Phyllis was born January 16, 1937 in Chicago, the daughter of Walter and Julia (Wawronowicz) Sprycha. She married Louis F. Matykiewicz on April 25, 1965 in Chicago. They enjoyed raising 8 boys and 1 daughter.
Phyllis retired from the Eagles Food Corporation, Milan and a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Coal Valley. She loved knitting, baking and reading and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. She was forever in love with the beauty of orchids and placing her annual bet for the Kentucky Derby with her beloved Bookie, Kevin, her 9th son. She enjoyed dinner and laughs with good friends and a strong martini. Above all, her family was most important to her and she cherished her time with them.
Survivors include: her husband, Lou; children, Al Matykiewicz, Coral Cables, FL, Andy (Janci) Matykiewicz, Green Cove Springs, FL, Tom (Misty) Matykiewicz, Springfield, IL, Jim (Kathy) Matykiewicz, Westminster, CO, Bill (Gerardo) Matykiewicz, Hollywood, FL, Mike (Becky), Orion, IL, Ann (Joe) Sobaski, Moline, IL, Dave (Janna) Matykiewicz, Cordova, TN and after all those boys, the apple of her eye was born, her baby boy Mark! Mark (Edie) Matykiewicz, Spring Hill, TN; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Lori Sands, Crown Point, IN and brother, Ron (Lynn) Sprycha, Crown Point, IN.
