In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moline Public Schools Foundation. P.O. Box 1366, Moline, IL 61266.

Patricia “Patti” Weinstock was born on August 26, 1945, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to WWII veteran and Chicago restauranteur, Edward R. Weinstock, and lounge singer Judith McElroy. She grew up in south suburban Chicago (Riverdale) graduating in 1963 from Thornton High School, where she was a cheerleader. In 1967, she graduated from Northern Illinois University. There, she met Rick Shannon of Moline at the school union - a gathering place with pool tables, bowling lanes, and dancing. She interrupted his game of pool to ask if he wanted to dance. He obliged, and the couple married on July 6, 1968.

Pat began her teaching career for one year at her alma mater, Thornton. After 32 years of service, she retired from Moline High School, where she served as a teacher in the Girls P.E. Department and coached the “Contemporaires” dance team, providing halftime entertainment at football and basketball games for the Moline community for 30 years. She coached an entire generation of Moline girls.

In retirement Pat enjoyed staying active in the winter months near Panama City, Florida, where she loved reconnecting with family and friends from Illinois, sitting by the pool or beach, and playing tennis and golf. Nothing gave Pat more joy than when her grandkids would make it to Florida each year to visit. When back in the Quad City area during the spring and summer months, Pat’s favorite pastime was attending her granddaughters’ cheer or dance events and her grandsons’ many baseball games, where she would quietly give them familiar encouragement: “Don’t pout. Get after it.”

Patricia is survived by her husband, Rick; children Michael (Jensie) Shannon and Kelly (Andrew) Powell; her sister Eunice (Roger) Scott; sister-in-law Billie Allardyce; three nephews; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Gage, Ryan & Emery Powell and Brooke & Micah Shannon. Gratefully, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents.

Pat’s family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospitals for its recovery efforts. The family also thanks the broader Moline community, Pat’s adopted hometown, for the outpouring of prayers and sympathy for their former dance coach. Memories and messages of support may be shared with the family at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
