Emil J. Wilkening, 77, of 1226 West 7th street, a resident of Davenport the last 37 years, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday in Mercy hospital.

Mr. Wilkening had been in ill health since suffering a stroke five years ago. He was confined to the hospital the last six weeks.

An employee at the Silvis shop of the Rock Island lines for many years before his retirement a number of years ago, Mr. Wilkening was born May 28, 1872 in Chicago. His marriage to Lizzie Berndt took place there June 7, 1893. Mr. Wilkening was of Lutheran faith and a member of the Davenport Moose lodge.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ada Hunter, Davenport, and Mrs. Ella Biddison, Rock Island; a son, Herbert Wilkening, at home; a brother, Herman Wilkening, Chicago; three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

The body was removed to Runge mortuary, where services will be held in the chapel at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery.
