Rufus J. Friday, 76, of Rock Island passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at home.

Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, February 26, at Greater Faith Baptist Church, 306 W. Cedar St. Davenport. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am at church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be left in care of the family.

Rufus was born on February 28, 1945 in Louisville, Mississippi, the son of John Friday & Willie Mae (Joe D.) Parks-Sanders. He married Annie B. Maid in April of 1980 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2011.

Rufus worked in many different positions over the years including; construction, railroad, junking, welding at John Deere and serving as the gas station attendant at the local Clark station. His many hobbies included fishing, gardening, singing the gospel & blues. Cooking fried corn & frying chicken was his specialty, he loved drag racing any & everywhere swear he was untouchable if you couldn't do 110 mph don't make it your business to say you wanna race. Rufus was loved by many and always fought for himself and others even till the end of his journey.

Survivors include his children, Alberta Hickman, Keith (Emily) Shell, Elizabeth Webb, Robert (Sandy) Maid, James (Monica) Maid, Coretta (Tyrone) Hurn, Queen Edna (Warren Sr.) Tyson, Denise Gardner-Jones, Shawn (Tracy) Maid; 32 grandkids and 63 great-grandkids; siblings, Rosevelt Sanders, Edna (Ferry) Norphlet, Lela (Willie) Harrington, Ruby Faye Sanders, Georgia Sanders, Annie (Charles) Reed, Michelle Sanders, Lavell Sanders and 1st Lady Mary (Pastor Russell) Harrington; In-laws, Jessie Pollard, Laura (James) Johnigan, Dora (Eddie) Wilson, Willie (Maggie) Brown, Ransom Brown Sr. and Ruby Lee Houston; special nieces, Jackie and Lasonia Harrington; special friend, Jurutha Hill; and classmate & longtime friend Early Harrington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; parents; sister, Willie Jean Daniels; brother, Willie B. Parks; In-Laws, Alberta & Lewis Brown; Son-In-Laws, Bennie Hickman & Rodney Jones; Grandsons, Roderick McBride and Antonio Maid; and Sister-In-Laws, Elenora & Louise Brown.
