Susan Jane MacQueen was born May 27, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Dr. John C. and Gert (McLaughlin) MacQueen.

As a child Suz developed a love for animals. She was either mending an injured creature or picking up strays and giving them a good home. She would take in the guinea pigs or blind gerbils no one wanted and build them a palace to live in. She learned to ride horses and became a talented equestrian. Raining Day Rebel was her favorite horse to ride in the fields. She had a special bond with her father, fixing furniture or creating gifts for her siblings working in their workshop. She shared a love for the opera with her mom and would take a yearly trip to Chicago to see one. Suz enjoyed singing in choirs and with her group Sweet Adelines.

Suz raised 2 beautiful boys and loved taking them on adventures. She would take them on walks downtown and shop for treasures in the second hand store. On fall weekends she would take the boys to auctions and was thrilled to see the wonderful box of knick knacks they won after waiting all day.

Suz graduated from DMACC with a degree in Civil Engineering. She worked in logistics for Absolute Concrete in Slater, Iowa. She was an avid collector of antique tea pots and teddy bears. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of her many plants.

Suz loved being active with her grandchildren. She would take them swimming. She toured the castles of Germany with her granddaughters. She loved to build ramps for cars and have nerf gun wars with her grandsons. And she made time to make cookies with them at Christmas.

Those left to honor Suz’s memory include her sons: Dr. K. John (Lori) Hartman, Bettendorf and Gabriel (Rieko) Hartman, Davenport; grandchildren: Emma, Christin, JJ, and Ryan; siblings: John Charles MacQueen, California, Debra (Dr. Stephan Kamelgarn) MacQueen, Eureka, California, and Jennifer (Doug) Hamilton, Fairfield, Iowa.
