MARIA HERLEIN
DAVENNPORT, Iowa - Maria Herlein, 74, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at home.

A funeral mass will be at 12:00 p.m., noon, on Monday, February 1, 2021, at St. Mathias Church. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maria's honor, to the children's charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Maria was born on January 21, 1947, in Mission, Texas, the daughter of Guadalupe R. Gonzalez and Carmen DeLeon. She married Kevin J. Herlein on August 28, 1987, at Zion Lutheran Church, in Muscatine. They were married for 33 years.

She had worked at Muscatine Walmart and helped establish many local Walmart's. She also worked at the Job Service of Iowa and most recently as a CNA at Ridge Crest in Davenport, where she had met many friends.

Maria had a great passion for children and enjoyed gardening. Most important was her love for all of her family and friends, she always looked forward to their visits. Maria was the most devote person Kevin ever met. Her faith was very important to her.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Herlein of Davenport; two daughters, Anita Maria Groenwoldt of Cornelius, North Carolina, and Christina 'Crissy' Pairrett of Davenport; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Kathy Gonzalez of Pennsylvania; sisters, Victoria 'Vicky' Miranda and husband, Claudio, of Muscatine, Paula Garcia and significant other, Antonio Marceleno, of Rock Island, and San Juanita 'Janie' Zaehringer and husband, Donald, of Muscatine; and her oldest and dearest friend and comadre, (Godmother to both her daughters) Irene Mawson of Silvis, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lydia Brinson in 2014; and two brothers, Fidel Gonzalez Sr. and Robert Gonzalez Sr.
