Davenport Daily Republican Tuesday July 17, 1900
Mrs. Mary E. Benkert, wife of George H. Benkert, born Sept. 16, 1857, fell asleep on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family residence, 424 east Seventh street, after nine months of intense suffering. The deceased was born in Otter Creek, Linn county, Iowa, and was the daughter of a pastor of the Evangelical church. She was married to Mr. Benkert the 27th of February 20 years ago. There were born to them five children, two of whom, Miss Maude and Walter, remain, together with their father to mourn the loss of the departed. "Yet not as those who have no hope," for the deceased was a child of the King and fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, to be awakened in the morning to taste eternal joy.
The funeral services will take place at the family residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.H. Blancke of St. Paul's Lutheran church, with interment in Oakdale cemetery.
