Shirley Ann Stoltenberg. (1940-2020)

Shirley Ann Stoltenberg, 79, of Eldridge passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed by visiting the Facebook page of Faith Lutheran Church or by visiting their website at www.FaithLutheranEldridge.com. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Those attending are asked to observe social distancing and masks are required. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lymphoma Society, Faith Lutheran Church, or to the Oncology Department at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Shirley was born November 3, 1940 in Eaton, Colorado, the daughter of John and Zelma (Waits) Nazarenus. She was the sixth child of seven, with two brothers and four sisters. She graduated from Davenport High School (Central) in 1959. She then continued her education at AIC, where she studied bookkeeping.

She met her soulmate, Donald M. Stoltenberg, on a blind date. They were united in marriage on October 6, 1962. They were blessed with two children, Douglas and Cynthia. Shirley worked for Lujack Auto Plaza for 15 years as a bookkeeper. After retiring, she and Don spent their time traveling to Fiji, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and England.

Shirley loved to travel (which she did a lot of), baking cakes, doing crafts, and playing cards. She belonged to a card club for over 50 years with four of her closest friends, as well as The Opossum Club, The Hat Club, Antique Ford Club, Plus 60 Tours, and Faith Lutheran Church. Family was the highlight of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren, as well as her six great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband of 58 years, Donald Stoltenberg of Eldridge; daughter, Cindy Hall of Bettendorf; son, Doug (Kathy) Stoltenberg of LeClaire; grandchildren, Nathan (Allie) Stoltenberg of Elgin, Illinois, William Hall of LeClaire, Jessica (Clinton Fanning) Cauwels of Wilton, Iowa, Russell (Tessa) Stoltenberg of Maquoketa, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Larry, John, Lyndsey, Remington, Gunnar, and Lia; sisters, Jeanie Korte and Elaine Nazarenus, both of Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Cockren and Betty Combs; and brothers, Johney and Jimmy Nazarenus.
