Daniel R. Soto, 73, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of rural Grand Mound died late Thursday morning, October 1, 2020, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Daniel Rodger Soto was born October 9, 1946, in Watsonville, California, to David and Rose (Escalante) Soto. He was educated in California and served in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1971 during the Vietnam War. Dan married Neola "Nikki" Peters August 16, 1969, in San Diego, California, where they resided prior to moving to Iowa in 1972. Dan and Nikki lived in rural Clinton County from 1972 until moving to Davenport in 2014, to their retirement home. After moving to Iowa, Dan was employed at Ralston Purina in Clinton for 15 years and then retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 27 years of service. Dan also graduated from the Kirkwood College Farrier Course and worked trimming and shoeing horses from 1973 until 1979.
He was a talented woodworker and craftsman who loved creating things for his family. If his wife, Nikki would design it, Dan would build it. Dan was a lifelong lover of dogs and was a dedicated Cub Scout Leader and Master.
Surviving are his wife his wife, Nikki; their children, Erika and Alan Anderson of DeWitt, Danna and Greg Wuestenberg of Davenport, and Daniel, Jr. and Alison Soto of Grand Mound; his grandchildren, Lane, Maria and Scott Anderson, Lucas Wuestenberg, Aiden and Issac Soto, and Madison Voss; his sister, Veronica DeBaca and brothers, David, Jesse, and Steven Soto.
Preceding Dan in death were his parents, his sister, Cecelia Soto and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Laura Peters.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020. A private family Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Pine Hill Cemetery, Bliedorn and will be streamed at https://www.facebook.com/schultzfuneralhomes/live. Pastor Leonard Conner will officiate. Military rites by Calamus American Legion and the Untied States Navy will follow.
Pallbearers will be Alan Anderson, Greg Wuestenberg, Alison Soto, Lane Anderson, Maria Anderson, Scott Anderson, Lucas Wuestenberg, Aiden Soto, Issac Soto, and Madison Voss.
