4 July 1963 - The Tipton Conservative

Marvin Wulf Jr., 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wulf, New Liberty, drowned in Lake Canyada near Blue Grass Monday. Wulf, who completed his high school work at Bennett in January, graduated with the 1963 Bennett class last month.

Wulf was swimming in an area which was signposted as banned to bathers when he went down. His body had been in the lake for about 20 minutes when it was recovered. Attempt at artificial respiration and oxygen resuscitation failed.

His body was recovered by 2 other swimmers, Chester Twitty, 20 and Leslie Hulting, 32, Moline.

The drowning was reported at 11:47 a.m. It occurred in an area marked as prohibited for swimming before noon.

Services were held at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport, at 1 p.m. Wednesday with burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Wulf was born in Stockton and graduated from Bennett High School. He had lived in New Liberty since 1954 and was employed in his father's garage there.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wulf Sr.; 4 sisters, Betty Anne, Barbara, Susie Kay and Brenda Lee, all at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wulf, Davenport and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Sadie Wulf, New Liberty

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Henry D. Wulf.
