Bettendorf – Matilda Hazel Tubbs, 88, of Bettendorf, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. until the service, at the mortuary. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
Matilda was born March 21, 1920, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Lon and Mary Bigley. She was united in marriage to Jesse John Tubbs on December 19, 1943, in Lincoln Neb. He died April 5, 1989. She had worked at Howard Plastics in Council Bluffs during World War II and then worked as a nurse’s aide at area nursing homes, including Good Samaritan Home in Davenport. Matilda loved life and loved people. She was a wonderful caregiver who provided strength and comfort to all she met. She enjoyed gardening, reading, especially biographies, hunting for bargains at the Goodwill Store and crossword puzzles.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Phillip V., Moline, and Richard Lee, Bettendorf; daughter, Judith Ann Flint, Missouri Valley, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Ruth and Helen in Bettendorf. Her parents, one brother, and one sister preceded her in death.
