December 1, 1930-August 5, 2019

DAVENPORT-Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Mary J. "Joanne" Bell, 88, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation Saturday at church from 9 to 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral. Mrs. Bell died peacefully Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Kahl Home.

Mary Joanne Miclot was born December 1, 1930 in Davenport, a daughter of John L. and Lucille (Shanley) Miclot. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, St. Ambrose College, School of Nursing.

Joanne was united in marriage to Charles E. Bell on May 16, 1953 in Davenport. He preceded her in death January 6, 2007 after 53 years of marriage.

Joanne enjoyed a wonderful career as a nurse at the former Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1988. She was a member at Sacred Heart Cathedral for over 65 years and volunteered at the Clothing Center. She lived a simple and prayerful life and cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Marianne Bell-Overholt, Geralyn (Tim) Frazer, Theresa (Joe) DeVine, all of Davenport and Kathy Gurvey, Glenview, Illinois, sons, Richard (Beth) Bell Eugene, Oregon and Edward (Penny) Bell, West Des Moines; grandchildren, Ryland and Chris Bell, Jenna and Kara Gurvey, Stephen Bell, Helene and Kate DeVine and Daniel, Maria, and Rose Frazer; sisters, Sue (Don) Epping, Davenport and Sally Packard, Minneapolis, Mn. and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Joanne was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Ramona Bell, son-in-law, Robert Overholt, a brother Gerald and a sister-in-law, Kay Arzberger.
