Emil Voelkers, 71, former resident of Durant whose home was two miles south of Blue Grass, died at 11:20 a.m., Thursday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Brock, Walcott. Death followed a brief illness.

Born Oct. 25, 1885, at Allen's Grove, he was the son of Chris and Katherine Voelkers. He married Minnie Kluever Jan. 28, 1914, at Davenport. The couple engaged in farming in the Durant area until 1935.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Clarence, Davenport, and John, Durant; four daughters, Mrs. Russel Schoeder, Albia; Mrs. Victor Kraft, Moscow; Mrs. Ephren Guy, Blue Grass, and Mrs. Guy Brock, Walcott; two brothers, Walter, Montpelier, and Hugo, Harrah, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Button and Clara Voelkers, Pryer, Okla.; and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter in 1950.

Funeral services were held Monday. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.
