WALTER VAN MAANEN

DAVENPORT -- Walter L. Van Maanen, Davenport, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Runge Mortuary and Crematory. Burial is to follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the family, who will later establish a fund. Walter was employed at M.A. Ford Manufacturing for 36 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1996. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Davenport, and the American Legion, Post 482. He enjoyed walking, carpentry, HO scale model trains and camping with his special friends. Walter Van Maanen was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Volga, S.D., to Eddie and Evelyn (Vandenberg) Van Maanen.He served in the Navy from 9153 to 1957 when he was stationed on the USS Hollister. On Sep. 6, 1958, he married Lois Shirlaw in Davenport. Survivors include his wife, Lois; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy, Campobello, S.C., and Randy and Sharon, Escondido, Calif.; a sister, Sylvia Heuer, Phoenix; brothers, Kenny, Brookings, S.D., and Roy, Volga, S.D.; and five grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.
