Another Old Settler Gone

Another of Scott county's pioneer settlers was called to her long rest Monday afternoon. Mrs. Martha Allen died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. Eldridge, 1008 East Thirteenth street.

Mrs. Allen was a native of Canada, born at St. Katharine's in 1819, and was in her 75th year. While still a child, she with her parents removed to Albany, N. Y., where she met and married William Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Allen then journeyed westward and located at Pleasant Valley in 1856, making their home there until only a few months ago, when they removed to Davenport and took up their residence with Mrs. Eldridge. The illness causing Mrs. Allen's death was of very short duration and entirely baffled the skill of the physicians.

The husband and five children are left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Eldridge of this city, Mrs. Steven Spencer of Rock Island, Arthur Allen and Mrs. W. S. Pope of Pleasant Valley, and John Allen of Lynnville, Ia.
