Bartemeyer.

The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Bartemeyer occurred late Monday night at the family residence, 222 West Fifteenth street. Her age was 77 years, five months and 11 days. She was born in Soest, West Thalen, Germany, on Sept. 12, 1823, and at the age of 20 was married to Frederick Bartemeyer. They came to the United States in 1859, landing on July 7 of that year at New Orleans. From that city they came North to Davenport, where Mr. Bartemeyer worked at his trade of stone cutting. Then they went to St. Louis, where Mr. Bartemeyer entered the grocery business. From St. Louis they moved to Vicksburg, and lived there three years, after which they moved her once more, and Mr. Bartemeyer went into the grocery business at Main and Harrison streets.

Of the five children born to them two survive. They are Fred H. Bartemeyer, who is conducting the business established by his father, and Mrs. Elizabeth Fries, 1812 Harrison street. Fourteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren survive.The grandchildren are Herman H. Bartemeyer, Fredrick Bartemeyer, Mrs. Thomas Layden and Misses Kate and Mary Bartemeyer, all of Davenport; and Mrs. John Conklin, Mrs. Rufus Lock, Miss Sophia Fries, Mrs. Luck Sutton, John, Peter, Joseph, Anthony, and Theresa Fries.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from the residence with services at St. Joseph's church and interment will be at St. Marguerite's cemetery.
