James Renwick died at Davenport at the age of 88. He was born in Scotland, the descendant of James Renwick, the last of the Scottish martyrs. He came to Davenport in the interest of a large English syndicate in 1845, expecting to establish a factory for the manufacture of lard oil. The plan failed. He built the first saw mill in that city, carried on other lines of business and made a fortune.
