Joseph William Hines, 64, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the family home, 1025 East Locust street, after a lingering illness.
Ten years ago Mr. Hines, who was a painter and decorator by trade, fell from a scaffolding while working at the Rock Island arsenal. He has been ailing since that time but has been active until recently. He suffered a stroke Tuesday which resulted in his death.
The deceased was born in Davenport, Nov. 17, 1863, and was a life resident of the city. He lived in the same house for the past 61 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are three brothers, John H., Daniel P., and Christopher L.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pillion, and Miss Katherine at home; four nephews, Leo, Thomas, Robert and Francis Pillion and an uncle, Patrick Hines, all of Davenport.
The body was returned to the late home Saturday night from the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home and services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. with requiem high mass at the Sacred Heart cathedral at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Marguerite's cemetery.
