PIONEER CITIZEN OF COUNTY DIES AT AGE OF 86 YEARS

Thomas J. Glynn, pioneer citizen of Scott county, former supervisor, who previous to his removal to Davenport resided for many years in the Long Grove neighborhood, died at 11 o'clock this morning at the family home, 1505 Pershing avenue. He was 86 years old. Death terminated an illness of several years.

Well Known Citizen Succumbed Today at Family Home in City.

Thomas J. Glynn, pioneer citizen of Scott county, former supervisor, and well known throughout this section of country, died at 11 o'clock this forenoon at the family home, 1505 Pershing avenue. Death terminated an illness of long duration. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Glynn was born in Connaught, Ireland, Dec. 22, 1840, and emigrated to America with his parents when but six years old. They landed in New Orleans where they remained one year and then moved to Madison, Indiana. Here the son attended the parochial school. In 1854 they settled in Davenport and a year later moved to a farm near Long Grove.

On June 6, 1865, Mr. Glynn was united in marriage to Anna Ennis in St. Anne's church at Long Grove, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Henry Cosgrove, who later became bishop of the Davenport diocese.

The newly married couple took up their residence on a farm near Long Grove. They later moved to Walnut Grove where Mr. Glynn engaged in the coal and grain business for a period of six years. In 1910 he retired and moved to Davenport.

Mr. Glynn was a man of high ideals and strict honesty. He served years as chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Scott county and was always known as a faithful guardian of the taxpayer's interests.

His wife preceded him in death, April 27, 192?. Surviving are seven children. They are Dr. J.M. Glynn of Chicago; Dr. C.E. Glynn of Davenport; Leo Glynn of Portland, Oregon; Sister Mary Xaveria of Des Moines, and Tom, Anna and Alice at home. A daughter, Mrs. Langan of Pasadena, California, died some years ago.

Mr. Glynn has been a patient sufferer the past seven years, most of the time being confined to his bed. He was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Funeral services will be held there at 9 o'clock Thursday morning, to be followed by interment at St. Marguerite's cemetery. Friends are requested to kindly omit flowers.
