J.W. DOUGHERTY DIES SUDDENLY AT FAMILY HOME

Well Known Davenporter Summoned at Late Hour Last Night.

Death very suddenly and unexpectedly removed from the community one of its well-known and respected residents when James W. Dougherty passed away at 11:30 last night at the family home at 1725 Iowa street. Mr. Dougherty had been sick for two weeks, but seemed on the road to recovery when an attack of the heart terminated his life.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1873, in the city of Chicago and moved to Davenport when a small child. On April 23, 1903, he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Jane Smith by Bishop James Davis at the Sacred Heart cathedral. Mr. Dougherty's standard of living, his devoted attention to his family, church and state, and his respected acquaintance with a host of friends won for him a high place in the community.

He was employed for the past 25 years on the Rock Island arsenal. He was affiliated with Loras council, Knights of Columbus, and with the Modern Brotherhood of America.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Alice Jane Dougherty; six daughters, Catherine, Ellen, Genevieve, Mary, Arline, and Ann, all at home, and one sister, Mrs. John Farren of Davenport.

The body was removed to the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home. Tonight it will be taken to the family home from where the funeral will be held Friday morning at 8:30, with services at 9 o'clock at the Sacred Heart cathedral. Interment will be made in St. Marguerite's cemetery.

Members of the local Knights of Columbus will meet for prayer at the Dougherty home on Thursday night at 8 o'clock
