OBITUARY.

PAXTON.

Word was received here yesterday by John N. Paxton, of the death of his brother W.T. Paxton, D.D., in San Francisco, Oct. 21. Dr. Paxton was one of Iowa's early settlers coming to the state in 1859, and was a member of the Iowa M.E. conference holding many appointments under that body. He was presiding elder for this district for two years and in 1870-71 was pastor of the Fourteenth Street Methodist church in this city. Dr. Paxton and his family have many friends in Davenport who will regret deeply the death of a man regarded by them with the greatest esteem and respect. The funeral was held in San Francisco, with interment there, but the body will be removed later to the east.
