Obituary

SWAIN.

E.O. Swain, a former resident of Davenport and the father of Mrs. G.E. Whitemore of this city died at Iowa City on Wednesday morning. He had been afflicted with creeping paralysis for years, and four weeks ago SUnday, suffered a stroke which procured him completely, leaving him until the end unconscious.

Mr. Swain was born in Washington, D.C. June 1, 1831, therefore being not quite 62 years of age at his death. Shortly after 1831, he removed with his parents to Alexandria, Va., remaining there until manhood. In 1853 he moved to Davenport, and in 1855 to Iowa City.
