ROCK ISLAND - Services for Helen Elizabeth Strayer, 94, of 1900 6th Ave., Apt. 202, will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Rev. Ambrose Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Strayer died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa.
She retired in 1965 as a secretary at Rock Island Arsenal. She had worked at the former McCabes Department Store, Rock Island, and the former New York Store, Moline.
Helen Hefner was born Oct. 17, 1903, in Yankton, S.D., to Frank and Amelia (Weber) Hefner. She married Walter A. Strayer on Nov. 11, 1931, in Rock Island. He died in 1967. She married Frank McGuckin on Nov. 15, 1923, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she was a member.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Gutzwiller, Cottonwood, Ariz.; a son, Robert L. Strayer, Clinton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
