Obituary

HOWARD.

Yesterday morning the TRIBUNE contained the mere announcement of the death of James Howard, the well known ex-policeman, constable and deputy sheriff. He had many friends in Davenport and the announcement of his death was a surprise to them, although they knew he was the victim of consuption: He had been ill for many long and weary months and death was to him a welcome release from much bodily suffering.

James Howard was 37 years of age and had lived in Davenport all his life. About 10 years ago he went onto the police force when he served faithfully for about eight years. For two terms he served as deputy sheriff and at the time of his death was the constable of Davenport city township. He father, mother and sister all died of the disease which caused his death.

The funeral will take place this morning from St. Marguerites cathedral at 9 o'clock.
