Obituary

Peter Kerker

Peter Kerker an old and highly respected citizen, died very suddenly at his home Sunday morning. He had been confined to the house since last December and general debility, together with the influenza, was the cause of his sudden demise.

Peter Kerker was born in Bavaria in 1822 and came to the United States 1838 and in 1840 came to Davenport. He was for a long time baker and confectioner on the Mississippi river steamers. In 1842 he was married to Miss Clara Sommers, of Peoria, and in 1844 he settled at Weston, Mo., where he lived until 1852, when knowing that civil war between the north and south was imminent, he came to Davenport, where he embarked in the confectionery business. Mr. Kerker was the father of nine children, five of whom, with the widow, live to mourn his death. They are Henry W., George W., Louis, Mrs. Phil. Morgan and Mrs. James T Hayes.

The funeral will take place this morning from St. Marguerite's cathedral at 9 o'clock. The pall bearers will be A.J. LeClaire, Paul Deutsch, A. Woeber, E. Grace, A. Steffen, John Hill, A. Wald and J. Bartemeier. Interment will be in St. Marguerite's cemetery.
