Bensen County (ND) Farmers Press; Friday, March 25, 1938:
Robert William Stickelberger was born at Buffalo, Iowa, on September 5, 1868. His father was George Frederick Stickelberger of Haldingen Baden, Germany; his mother, Marianne Geneva Gold Stickelberger of Neustadt-on-the-Main, Bavaria, Germany.
Mr. Stickelberger attended rural school in his home community and later took a business course in Davenport, Iowa. At the age of seventeen he went to Boone County, Iowa, where he remained for several months.
In 1891 he came to North Dakota and for some time raised sheep near Lallie, at that time known as Ft. Totten Station. In 1894, however, he returned to Iowa to manage the old home place. He came back to Oberon, North Dakota in 1904, and engaged in the livery business.
On June 13, 1906, he married Dr. Josephine Lindstrom of Oberon. He sold his Livery business in 1909, and from that time until recently he farmed near Oberon, although the family home remained in Oberon.
Mr. Stickelberger passed away at his home on Monday, March 21, at 12:30 A.M.. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife; one son, Louis; two daughters, Lucy and Geneva; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louis Stickelberger, and one small grandson, Bobbie Stickelberger. He leaves also three sisters: Miss Lucy Stickelberger of Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. G. E. Torrison of Napa, California; and Mrs. C. D. Darrah of Tacoma, Washington.
An infant son and two brothers, Frederick and Louis, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Hoffbauer, Mrs. Nancy Larsen, Elizabeth, and an infant preceded Mr. Stickelberger in death.
Mr. Stickelberger, though not a member, affiliated with the Congregational Church in Oberon. He took much interest in whatever was worthwhile in the community. He was a kindly man with a never failing sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. He loved his home and enjoyed most of the time spent in the circle of his immediate family. He was very fond of children, and was especially devoted to his small grandson, Bobbie. All who knew Mr. Stickelberger will miss his kindly greeting and all will have pleasant memories of the happy hours spent with a loyal friend.
Interment was made in Hillside cemetery after services conducted at the Oberon Congregational Church. Service conducted by Rev. George D. Caycle of New Rockford.
