Former Fairfield resident Julia E. Welsh, 74, of Bettendorf died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Bettendorf, of which she was a member. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery at Rock Island, Ill. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund.
The daughter of Francis J. and Anna Keller O'Neill, she was born at Fairfield on July 16, 1925. She married Robert E. Welsh in Monmouth, Ill., on Dec. 15, 1945.
She was employed as the head of the dietary department of the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home in Bettendorf for 10 years, retiring in 1989. In earlier years, she had received nursing training at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Keokuk and St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill.
In addition to her church, she was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2271 in Fairfield.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; four daughters, Ellen P. Welsh of Rock Island, Loretta Thompson and Julianne Welsh, both of Bettendorf, and Joanne Gove of Findlay, Ohio; three sons, Michael R. of Schaumburg, Ill., John D. of Rock Island and Timothy J. of New Caney, Texas; three sisters, Mary Helen Loving of Galesburg, Ill., JoAnn O'Neill of Omaha, Neb., and Nancy Baird of Fairfield; and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John.
