LeCLAIRE, Iowa — Calvin L. Watkins, 71, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at Trinity Bettendorf. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Rev. Ed Hedding will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Scott County 4-H.
Mr. Watkins was born in 1940 in Davenport, Iowa, to Clarence and Aruba Watkins. He was a former member of the National Guard. On February 23, 1963, he married Linda Posten in Davenport. He farmed in the LeClaire area his entire life. He also worked as a mechanic for John Deere, Eldridge, and with the Secondary Roads Department of Scott County. His memberships included Farm
Bureau and the Cloud Duster Remote Control Airplane Club. Cal was also a former member of the Scott County Cattleman’s Association. He enjoyed building RC planes and restoring antique John Deere tractors.Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughter, Tanya (Tim) Coach of Gardner, Kansas; sons, Craig (Mari) Watkins of LeClaire, Iowa, and Scott (Jodi) Watkins of Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren, Sivi, Montana, and Clay Watkins, and Masan and Kapan Coach; brothers, Charles (Myra) Watkins of Camanche, Iowa, and David (Marylu) Watkins of Moscow, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
