At 5:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home at Howell and Dixwell streets occurred the death of Ernst Jasper Friederick Steffen, at the age of 49 years. Cancer of the stomach is given as the cause of death. The deceased was a native of Suelfeldt bei Bach der Heide, Germany, where he was born April 17, 1853. He came to Davenport ten years ago, in October, 1892, since which time he was engaged in his trade as a cooper at the Glucose plant.
The survivors are his wife Augusta, three daughters, Frieda and Gretchen Steffen at home, and Mrs. Augusta Hartmann, and one son, Ernst J. P. Steffen. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the late residence under the auspices of the Glucose Sick Relief society, and the order of Harugari, of which the deceased was a member, with interment at Fairmount cemetery.
