MAYSVILLE, Iowa -- Mr. Edwin H. Johannsen, of Maysville, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, after a courageous fight with an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 29, at Runge Mortuary and Crematory.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Maysville Fire Department or Dixon American Legion.

Edwin was born August 5, 1916, in Dixon, Iowa, the son of Henry and Sophia (Kuehl) Johannsen. He was united in marriage to Bernice (Peters) Puls on October 16, 1948, in Davenport. She preceded him in death May 26, 2001, in Davenport.

He served in World War II (Army), 1941-1945, with the 194th FA BN in Africa, Germany and France (ETO). He worked for Scott County Road Department for four years, later retiring after 31 years from Sivyer Steel. He was a member of many groups, including a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 353, Dixon, Iowa; and member of Moose Lodge of Davenport; Scott County Voitures of 40/8; and City Council of Maysville. He also had been involved with the Maysville Fire Department from 1953 to 1985. Edwin loved to go fishing and gathering with family and legion members.

Survivors include stepson and spouse, Richard and Sally Puls, Eldridge; four grandchildren, Sue, Steve, Tim and Tami; 10 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Dan and Cindy Siefers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
