The Davenport (IA) Republican; Saturday, August 19, 1901:
Last evening at 6 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert J. Silk, 1504 Rock Island street, occurred the death of Christian Kober, one of the oldest settlers in Scott county. He was born in Germany, Feb. 18, 1808, and upon his arrival in this country, after a short visit in Philadelphia, came to Davenport in 1839. Ever since that year he has lived at his farm on the Orphans' Home road, four miles north of the city. He was married in Philadelphia in 1839 to Miss Sarah Moore. For the last 16 years he had been a member of the Lutheran church in this city. Four daughters and one son survive him, as follows: Mrs. N. K. Sluke, Mrs. Henry Woodford, Mrs. Robert J. Silk and Mrs. James Murray, all of this city, and Chas. Kober, who resides on the homestead. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Robert J. Silk Monday morning at 10 o'clock, with interment at Oakdale cemetery.
