Former Davenport Resident Dies Monday After Illness.
Mrs. Mathilda Lillian Spies, former Davenporter, passed away at her home, R. R. No. 1, east of Summit, Ia., Monday at 7:35 p.m. following an extended illness.
The deceased was born in Davenport, Aug 10, 1881 and received her education in the Davenport schools. Her maiden name was Miss Tillie Anthony. She was united in marriage to John Spies Sept. 12, 1900 at Davenport. The couple moved on the farm about 20 years ago and have since lived there.
Surviving are her husband, five children, Andrew, Davenport, Mrs. Anna Claussen, R. R. No. 3, Davenport, Ester [sic], Alfred, and Vernon, at home; three sisters Mrs. Robert Pierce, Mrs. William Buhman, all of Davenport; four brothers, Henry and Fred Anthony of Wichita, Kansas, Harry Anthony, Woch, Mass., and William Anthony, R. R. No. 7, Davenport; and one grandson.
The remains were taken to the Runge mortuary and were removed to the Halligan funeral home where the body will remain until Thursday afternoon. The body will then be taken to the late home, two miles east of Summit, where services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. Interment will be made in Oakdale cemetery. The Rev. J. A. Miller will officiate.
