Saturday morning at 7 o'clock [note: April 02, 1904], occurred the death at his home on the Dubuque road of Chas. Kreiter, from a complication of cancer and dropsy. Deceased was born in Merxhausen, Gross Herzgthum, Braunschweig, German, [sic] on August 15, 1827, and was 77 yars old.

He participated in the war of 1847-48 and also in the Schleswig-Holstein war. In 1849 he came to America, settling in Wheeling, West Virginia, where, on January 10, 1858, he was married to Miss Mary Althaus, who survives.

During September, 1865, he removed to this city, purchasing the farm on Dubuque road in 1871, where he had made his home ever since. He is survived by his wife and children -- Mrs. Chas. Lau, Henry Kreiter, Mrs. F. G. Hauer, Mrs. J. H. Wiese, Chas., John, and William F. Kreiter.
