Colona Man Dies at Home

Charles E. Brown, 64, of rural Colona died Sunday evening, January 7, in his home after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon, January 10, in the Colona Methodist church with burial in Davenport Memorial Park.

Mr. Brown was born in Rome, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Brown. He married Helen McMurren December 3, 1924, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

He was a retired melter at Rock Island Arsenal.

Surviving are the widow; three sons. Dean L., Claude W. and Richard B., all of Colona; six daughters, Mrs. William Keele and Mrs. George Hunsacker of Bishop Hill, Mrs. William DeYoung of Coal Valley, and Mrs. Wilbur Mooney, Mrs. Mervin Teggatz and Mrs. Gene Massingill all of Colona; 30 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold O. of New London, Iowa, and Clifford E. of Milan; seven sisters, Mrs. Willis Plants of Weldon, Calif., Mrs. Wilbur Witthoft of Davenport, Mrs. William Reeves of Ottumwa, Mrs. Pat Fraley of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mrs. Catherine Johnson of Fairfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Richard Allison of San Antonio, Texas.

Two sons and a daughter preceded him in death.
