Stoaks, Sarah J. Preston -
Mrs Sarah J. Stoaks, 97, one of the oldest residents in Lenox died Monday at 7:30 p. m. in a Creston hospital. Funeral services are being held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Methodist Church, the Rev Burton Collier officiating. Burial will be in the Lenox cemetery.

Mrs Stoaks had kept her home and until recently had been able to do her own work and look after her business.

She is survived by two daughters Mrs Dora Caskey of Lenox and Mrs Pearl Shaw of Spokane Wash.; two sons, Fred of Clearfield and Andrew of Lenox; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She was the last of the family of 11 children. One of her sisters lived to be 98 years old.

Her husband, Fred, and 2 sons preceded her in death.

Mrs Stoaks had belonged to the Methodist Church here for 63 years, the longest period of any woman in the congregation. Her activities in the church were recognized when she was crowned "Queen for a Day,'' at a circle meeting on her 91st birthday.

Sarah J. Stoaks, daughter of Charles and Sarah Preston was born July 25, 1880 in Scott County near Davenport, Iowa and passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston on Dec. 9, 1957 at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage on January 2, 1879 near Davenport. They came directly to their farm in Adams County and resided there until they moved to Lenox in September 1908.

To this union 6 children were born: Fred of Clearfield, Andrew of Lenox, Pearl (Mrs Clem Shaw) of Spokane, Wash. Two sons, Charles and George preceded her in death.

The last of 11 in her family she had 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Her husband passed away August 26, 1926. Living alone since his death, she has enjoyed good health, her flowers and neighbors.

In 1899 she united with the Methodist Church in Lenox.

Funeral services were at the Methodist Church Dec. 12, the Rev. Burton C Collier officiating.
