Meier-

At his home one mile east of Long Grove at 11:30 Saturday morning, after a lingering illness of several months' duration, occurred the death of Charles Meier, one of Scott county's pioneer farmers. Mr Meier was born in Bremen, Prussia, Germany, Sept. 30, 1849, and came to this country at the age of 14 years. He had attended school in Germany and had been confirmed in his native land. For two winters after his arrival here he was a pupil in the district school of Long Grove, that he might become familiar with the English language.

For many years he worked as a farm hand, in fact till he was married to Miss Marry Fahrenkrug, on Sept. 2, 1876, when he rented a farm in Winfield township and later removed to Sheridan township, where they lived seven years, then returning to Winfield township where he purchased a farm and remained there until his death. The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Meier, seven children, Mrs. H. P. Oetzmann, Mrs. Louise Wulf of Davenport, Mrs. A. C. Oetzmann of Eldridge, and Ferdinand, Alma, Hilda, and Edna at home, one brother, Fritz Meier, Mrs. Charles Fendt, Mrs. Aug. Buege, Mrs. Christ Jaeger.

Mr. Meier was a mamber of the W. O. W. No. 7, Long Grove, and the [sic]

The funeral will be held Tuesday trustee of Winfield township [sic].

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p. m. from the home. Burial will take place in the Long Grove cemetery.
