Sauer
Tuesday evening at 7:45 o’clock at his residence in Buffalo township occurred the death of Christopher Sauer, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of that portion of the county. It was only a short time ago that he sustained a paralytic stroke and since that time he has been failing until death finally came.
Mr. Sauer was born in Germany on the banks of the river Rhine. He came to America with his parents in 1842 and located in this county near where his home now is, and with the exception of a few months, has lived there continuously ever since. He was 59 years of age at the time of death.
Without a doubt, Mr. Sauer was one of the most benevolent men in the lower end of the county. He would divide his last dollar with any one in need and at the same time was one of the most pleasant and happy dispositioned men in the neighborhood, and consequently was greatly beloved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife and three children, two daughters and a son. He is likewise survived by a sister, Mrs. Catherine Dotty now residing in Arkansas, and two brothers, William, who lives on a farm near at hand and John who has always made his home with him. During their entire lives these two brothers have never been separated more than two months all told.
The funeral will take place Friday morning at 10 o’clock from the residence. Interment will be at West Davenport cemetery.
